Summer Solstice

Today marks the Summer Solstice (Litha) or for those on the other side of the world, the Winter Solstice! I live in the United States so today we are going to focus on the Summer Solstice.

I took my second ritual bath since coming back to Wicca last night and it was divine. One of my favorite past times is to start up a hot bath and read for about an hour. My absolute favorite thing to do is take an “oil bath” with bubbles. So it’s like a bubble bath but you put oil in the water to help moisturize your skin.

Last night, I chose to do a ritual bath, like I was saying which means the bath is more special and has more meaning. It’s a magical bath, you could say.

Summer Solstice Ritual Bath:

  • Lavender flowers
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Rosemary leaves (pressed and rolled to awaken the scent)
  • Sesame seed oil (about 2 teaspoons only)
  • Black ritual salt (1-2 cups depending on your preference)

Add all ingredients to running bath (this activates them) and enjoy per usual. Be sure to dip your head/hair in the bath for threefold purification. In Wicca, you will notice that a lot of things are done in threes. You can clean, as usual, so if you’re needing to shampoo and condition or shave, it’s still a bath so you can do this. I just wouldn’t recommend because with the oil and flowers, you’re bound to have residual flowers sticking to you when you get out.

For those that are needing extra purification you can say a incantation while you are in the bath as follows:

By water, I am purified for the next coming season.

By the sun of summer, I am ripened to bloom where I am planted.

May this water carry my sins away and renew my energy.

May my energy reflect the power of the sun on this summer solstice.

Blessed Be.
